Description

They say a dog is a man’s best friend.  I would have to say that a milk cow is a woman’s best friend.  A homestead woman anyway.  A milk cow is invaluable when it comes to a homestead.

At this workshop, we start at the beginning.  We feel that you need to know several things before bringing that new girl on to your place.  You will have the opportunity to personally experience milking a cow.

Join our workshop to learn:

  • The infrastructure needed for your cow
  • Nutritional needs for your cow
  • What to look for and what questions to ask when purchasing a cow
  • Discuss potential problems or complications that could arise once you have a cow
  • When to treat and when to call the vet
  • How, when and where to breed your cow
  • Hand milk vs machine milk (and what machine set up will fit your needs)
  • And, of course, how to manage all that milk!

You will make a little homemade ice-cream, go home with raw milk, and get handouts of all the resources discussed in the workshop.

Kristin at Centennial Roots is a seasoned dairy cow owner. After our great experience this past fall, we are excited to be partnering with Hanleigh over at Sync Up Breeding to bring you this hands-on workshop at Centennial Roots Homestead.

Hanleigh Studer’s artificial insemination business is much different from the others in her field. While most will only work with larger scale producers, she found her niche with both commercial and small hobby farmers/homesteaders. She started her cattle production journey when she was 15 tagging along with her agriculture educator from her hometown. After following him around for a while, she attended Cattle Visions School where she was certified for artificial insemination. She bred for friends and family but decided to make it her career. She went on to the University of Missouri to further her knowledge. She worked with the repro team there where she had more direction and hands-on practice than ever. She then went back to her hometown, Lebanon, MO, and opened her own AI business to breed as a service. Check out her page: Artificial Insemination | Sync Up Breeding Artificial Insemination
